MSU’s beautifully green golf course first opened in 1957, originally spanning what is considered the west course of today. Today, Forest Akers encompasses two 18-hole golf courses.
Forest Akers East Course opened its first nine holes in 1966, while the remainder holes to complete another 18-hole course was completed in 1979.
Forest Akers West Course was originally designed to serve as both a natural arboretum and a golf course.
The Golf Course Maintenance Crew keeps the aesthetic and functional value of a professional golf course at all times of the year. Warmer months bring the course’s more than 1,600 plants to life, many of which are unique to the course on campus.
Crews are responsible for:
Sean O’Connor - Golf Course Superintendent
Operations Supervisor (West Course) - Ron Lewis
Operations Supervisor (East Course) - Bob Whybrew
